Reserva de la Biosfera Sian Ka’an
Sian Ka’an (which means “origin of heaven” in the Maya language) has been recognized as a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1986. Since 1987, it has been on the World Heritage List. It includes marshes, mangroves and a tropical forest with its fauna and flora.
It includes more than 300 species of birds.
